VPN User Management
This guide will outline the process for adding users to your VPN instance. Adding users allows them to connect to the VPN service and gain access to the local network of a specifi site, or multiple sites, depending on how many sites are connected to the VPN instance.
Add a User to your VPN Instance
You can add users to your VPN instance, this will create a VPN service which the user can use in order to get access to the local network for the specific site.
- From your
VPN Instances
page, you can add users by clicking on theAdd Users
button at the top of the page.
- You will be taken to a new widget. You can include the user(s) by clicking on the
Add Users
button.
By clicking on the small +
icon, you can create a new user. This can be accomplished by adding their personal details.
See this page for more information regarding users.
- Clicking on the
Add Users
button will enable you to add a user to the VPN Instance.
- From the drop-down list, select the user(s) you would like to add to your VPN Instance.
- Give the system a few moments to orchestrate the change and add the user to the Instance.
Your own user profile will not be added to the VPN Instance automatically, this helps to ensure that you are creating either a site-to-site or a site-to-user VPN, or both if you'd like.
Step 2: Send The Configuration To The User
After you have added the user(s) to the VPN Instance, you can now have the chance to send them the configuration files.
- From the user list in the VPN Instance Configuration menu, you can click on the small
Share
icon on the right-hand side of the user's name.
- A new widget will open up, showing a QR code, and then some buttons at the bottom.
The Buttons at the bottom do the following:
Button: | Description: |
---|---|
Download (Left) | This will allow you to download the configuration to your local machine, which you can then use to manually share the configuration, or import it into your own wireguard application. |
Share (Middle) | This button will allow you to share your configuration with others by creating a shareable link. |
Copy (Right) | This button will allow you to copy the configuration. |
You have now successfully added a user to your VPN Instance, you can use our built-in tools to share or import the configuration.
Remove VPN Users
Sometimes, you might just need to remove users from your VPN Instance, it might be to remove their access completely, or it might be to move them to another one, so let's get right into it.
Step 1: Access your VPN Instance
- From your dashboard, navigate to the VPN page, which can be accessed under the
VPN
section.
- You will be taken to a new page, this page is the VPN Overview page, which allows you to manage all of your active VPN services, as well as their users.
Step 2: Remove your VPN Users.
- When you have entered into your selected VPN Instance, you can then select the
Users
tab in order to be taken to the user management page for the instance.
- Within the user list, you can then continue to click on the small
trashcan
icon in order to remove the associated user.
- A small confirmation button will show itself, should you wish to continue, you can click on it.
- Congratulations, you have now successfully removed the user from your VPN Instance, and they will no longer have access to your resources via the WireGuard application.
There are some key points to note that are extremely important.
- The VPN will only become inactive once the user disconnects from the VPN, only thereafter will they no longer have access.
- Once the user has been removed, a small confirmation dialog will pop up, verifying that the user has been removed, and it will look like the picture below.
